10 DIGIT DIALING...

In October 2006, 10-digit local dialing will be required in select regions of Ontario and Quebec, and at the same time two new area codes will be introduced.

10-digit local dialing is being introduced in area codes 450, 514, and 819 in Quebec, and 519, 613, and 705 in Ontario. In addition to 10-digit local dialing, two new area codes are being introduced in Ontario & Quebec. This initiative will prepare affected regions to issue phone numbers with new area codes once the existing inventory of numbers is depleted. Starting October 21, 2006 an overlay will equip Ontario's 519 region with the new 226 area code. Similarly, an overlay ready by November 4, 2006, will prepare Montreal's 514 region for the new 438 area code.

How does this effect you? Well what you need to do is when you are dialing up to the interenet, place the 10 digit telephone number in the dial-up box opposed to the 7-digit telephone number that is currently there. If you do not do this you will not be able to connect. So please remember to do this before October 16, 2006, otherwise you will not be able to connect.
